Now It Is Your Turn To Make A Podcast!
Essential Question: What is COPYRIGHT and how does it impact my life now and in the future?
Much of the information on the internet is protected by copyright law. That includes images, music, page content, and multimedia. It's important to understand how copyright affects what you choose to use and how you use it. Remember when it comes to copyright, what you don't know can hurt you! You will be creating an audio podcast about the topic of copyright. The podcast will include information about what copyright is and how it affects students. Include information about fair use, public domain, and attribution. The podcast will be uploaded to the internet so students may use the information as a resource. Steps Of The Process! STEP ONE – Your Task (What needs to be done?) Create a podcast about copyright to be shared with students and the world. Think about.... What topic will you be investigating?
What do you already know about your project?
What more do you need to find out about your project?
PART TWO- Think of questions you have about the topic of copyright. These are the questions that will guide your research as you locate the information that will be shared with your audience. Write the questions in the spaces on your "Getting It Done" packet. (who, what, when, where, why, how) Complete Step One on your "Getting It Done" sheet.
STEP TWO – Information Seeking Strategies (What will I use to locate the information I need?) Brainstorm to determine the range of resources- What resources will you use to find the needed / best information to answer your questions? Make a list of all possible resources for Step Two on your "Getting It Done!" sheet.
STEP THREE – Location & Access of Information (Where can I find the information I need?) Make a list of words (keywords or search words) that will help you find Information. Keywords are like synonyms and related words to your topic. List the keywords in the table on your "Getting it Done!" sheet. B How will you locate information in your resources?
Books -- look at the index (usually in back of book) and/or table of contents (front of book) for your topic and keywords.
Encyclopedias -- look at the index volume for topic and keywords.
Online Databases -- type either your topic or keywords in the search box.
Use Teacher Project links carefully, fully exploring each link that is offered.
Search Engines -- use same strategy as online databases -- see if keywords in quotes narrow your search results.
Use these resources to find the information to answer your guiding questions. Add the information to your Inspirations Web. Be sure to identify where you found the information, your source and to paraphrase, put the information in your own words.
Search for the word you are defining, read the entry and paraphrase into your own words. Remember, Wikipedia can be Tricki-pedia!
Media Center Resources Use Athena to locate resources in the nonfiction collection. Use resources from the reference section (encyclopedia, dictionary, ....)
STEP FIVE – Synthesis / “Think About” (What can I create to show my knowledge to others?)
Ask yourself these questions:
Have I have organized this information so that it makes sense to me and others?
Do I have enough information to answer the essential question?
Present the information
For this project you will create a podcast using Audacity. But first you must write a script. Use the information you collected in your web to create your script using the script template in the student share drive. Be sure to save it to your drive. Once your script is approved you may begin recording and creating your podcast.
An Audacity Guide is available in the Student Drive, South Folder.
STEP SIX – Evaluation – (How well did I do the job?)
Compare your Podcast and the rubric. Complete step six of Getting It Done!

How will you locate information in your resources?
STEP FOUR – Collection of Information (Read, Listen, View!)
Engage the source (read, listen, view) . You may not need to read, listen, or view ALL material in each book, article, or website. Remember you are looking for specific information you need to answer your questions.
Take out the relevant information from a source Once you have found information about your topic you need to collect the information. This means – recording the words and phrases, in your own words, which answer your questions. Merely COPYING is NOT taking relevant information from a source.
For this project you will use Inspiration© to organize the information you collect. Be sure to identify the source of your information. (web address, book title/author page, movie title) The copyright web template is in the S/:student drive in a folder named South/Podcast Resources. Open the web and save it to your drive.
TEACHER PROJECT RESOURCE LINKS:
Use these resources to find the information to answer your guiding questions. Add the information to your Inspirations Web. Be sure to identify where you found the information, your source and to paraphrase, put the information in your own words.
